Aadhaar Card Update/Correction, and Status Check Online: The Aadhaar Card issued by UIDAI includes vital information of an individual like name, address, phone number, gender, and date of birth. It also includes the holder’s iris and fingerprint scan (biometric data).

What Aadhaar details can be updated?

As per the UIDAI website, the details that can be updated are mentioned below:

Aadhaar Card Update/Correction

This is a self-service mode where you can easily place a request on the website for updating your address. To log in, you must use the OTP received on your registered mobile number and the 12-digit Aadhaar number. Upload the address proof documents to complete the process of Aadhaar update.Steps to follow when choosing the online mode:

  • Go to Aadhaar self service update portal.
  • Select the specific fields that need update.
  • Fill up the fields with correct data and submit.
  • URN will be generated when you submit the form.
  • Select BPO for review of the updates.
  • Attach scanned copies of supporting documents.
  • Check Aadhaar update status using URN (Update Request Number).

2. Visit the nearest Permanent Enrolment Centre (PEC)

This is an assisted mode where you place your biometric/demographic update request with help from an operator at the PEC. The operator will also collect the documentary evidence supporting the update request from you.

UIDAI offers three Assisted Update modes, as mentioned below.

1. Update Client Standard – You can update all demographic fields, biometric fields, and local language.

Identity Authentication – Biometric check takes place at the back-end.

Document verification:

  • Verification is carried out for the fields that need documentary evidence.
  • Verification process is conducted by officials appointed by the Unique Identification Authority of India/Registrars at the Update or Enrolment Centre.
  • The procedure of verification being followed must be as per recommendations by the DDSVP Committee.

Filling up of the form followed by acknowledgement:

  • The operator takes care of language issues, transliteration, spelling issues, etc. Aadhaar update requests also get a biometric sign off from the operator.
  • You will get the acknowledgement receipt along with the URN. The URN can be used to track the status of Aadhaar update.

2. Update Client Lite

You can update all demographic fields, photo, and local language. Identity Authentication – Your biometric data will be checked. Document verification:

  • Verification is carried out for the fields that need documentary evidence.
  • Verification process is conducted by officials appointed by the Unique Identification Authority of India/Registrars at the Update or Enrolment Centre.
  • The procedure of verification being followed must be as per recommendations by the DDSVP Committee.

Filling up of the form followed by acknowledgement:

  • The operator takes care of language issues, transliteration, spelling issues, etc. The Aadhaar update requests also get a biometric sign off from the operator.
  • You will get the acknowledgement receipt along with the URN. The URN can be used to track the status of Aadhaar update.

3. Update via AUA Point of Presence

This mode is used by a select Registrar who is the AUA (Authentication Requesting Agency) too. APIs/application may be provided for update by UIDAI. The Registrars who are chosen for this mode are the ones who known for collecting/generating/possessing and/or managing the specific demographic field. The Registrar must be the custodian of these data.

Only demographics fields can be updated through this mode.

Identity Authentication – The AUA device will be used for biometric authentication of the resident. UIDAI may some additional/other factors for authentication, if needed. The operator will sign off using biometrics against the update request.

Document verification – The update will only be accepted by UIDAI based on the verification process of the Registrar and authentication of the resident. For audit, scanned/electronic documents might be collected online.

Filling up of the form followed by acknowledgement:

This is carried out by the operator of the Registrar (outsourced/employee) with biometric authentication on the device. The acknowledgement can be an SMS/email or a printed receipt, depending on the request type. For example, in case of updating mobile number, acknowledgement can be in the form of an SMS.

Updating Mobile Number with Aadhaar

To avail Aadhaar Online Services, a registered mobile number is a must. You can verify the mobile number provided by you at the enrolment time or when you update your Aadhaar details. In case your mobile phone number is not registered with UIDAI, you will have to go to a Permanent Enrolment Centre to get it registered.
